First day on Inca Trail
Day one on our trek we walked by many tiny farming villages. Most of the farms grew a variety of vegetables mostly corn and potatoes, a few cows, maybe a few sheep, pigs and chickens. We passed many of the locals on the trail carrying produce between their farms or travelling to catch the train. The train is their only source of transportation, and they walk along the Inca trail to catch the train.

First Inca site we stopped at.
All the farms use flood irrigation and their elaborate water systems are constructed of rock and mortar - so impressive.
Very happy to have reached the top of our first days climb.
The little village we camped in the first night.
Today we walked 13 km and climbed 160 floors (700 meters in elevation).
