Sacsayhuaman
The highlights of day 3 were San Pedro Market, Stone of 12 angles, and Sacsayhuaman, a unique Inca fortress just a short steep climb out of Custco.
A mural on the way to San Pedro market.
Steve enjoying a very humble breakfast at San Pedro market. He ordered coffe and she gave him hot water and then gestured to him to use what looked like soy sauce in a bottle on the table to add to his hot water. I told him to open his mind it may be great coffee but sadly I was wrong.😞. As we walked along the end of the aisles the vendors for the entire aisle would poke their heads out and encourage us to try their cooking. There was a soup aisle, a juice aisle and on and on- with gift ware vendors around the outside and produce and meat vendors in separate sections as well. There was an older lady on the street on the way selling turmeric root and turmeric powder and I’m going back to find her today.
1 sol (.33 C) for 4 limes.
Next I ventured out on my own to find exhale yoga studio but was caught up in a terrible rainstorm with the streets turning to rivers and water flooding up through the manholes. Cars driving by on the narrow streets were splashing water on my exposed side. I had to keep moving to meet the crew at turisto Centro at 1 pm so I ducked in to a shop to buy an umbrella and pressed
on with water up to my ankles as I crossed streets. I chose the wrong foot wear that morning.
After buying our tourist passes I bought a dry pair of hiker shoes and socks and off we went - sun was now shining.
Street I was on when storm broke.
View from the square when sun came out.
The infamous stone of 12 angles. Unbelievable and an engineering marvel.
A uniques spot showing pre Inca works in the back, Inca workmanship in the middle and work of the incapables(Spaniards) in the front left.
A bit excited when we first arrived I was.
All of these photos are
Of the climb up to and around Sacsayhuaman. Considered one of the greatest works of Inca architecture, it was built between the 15th and 16th centuries. It was both a temple and a fortress of defence.
I then left the crew to go fetch their
Lost luggage at the airport (I only brought carry on😎) and headed to a cute pub I had spotted on the way up for happy hour and a great view. Then met up later at air bnb.
Those are highlights of day 3 - I talked Kayla and Steve into hitting Paddies, a little Irish pub, for dinner and Andrea had an early night as she is still nursing a cold.
