WHW Day 3 Rowardennan to Crianlarich
So when we arrived at Rowardennan Hotel last night we were just exhausted…totally deflated- we seriously underestimated the challenge of the WHW. On arrival at the front desk the clerk said oh tomorrows hike is much harder than today - it’s 20 miles man and tough going. My answer as I slothed out on the couch w the others waiting for our room keys was “You’ve got to do be kidding”! That night Katie and Max scouted out jumping off points and logistics if anyone couldn’t make it. A ferry across the lake at the 10 mile mark and a train to Crianlarich was the best
option.
The first highlight of today was the falls..don’t ask me the name but they were so fun - we were so tired but we
played like children. Then we pressed on- what a tough day. Max’s knee gave out at at Ardleish and he headed to the ferry for ice and a pub and the train to Crianlarich. If it wasn’t for Haveeza I would have been right w him. Thx Haveeza for your strength and grit and competitive spirit.
This place was so cool and we filled up our water and I tried to get the guys to come and have a pint in the bar but they weren’t havinit…the pub was adorable and the pub manager said it was 2 hours to Crianlarich - boy was he wrong..
This creek cheered us up again. We
had left Max and were tired and sad and this gave us the renewed energy we needed but the midges moved in as we were getting dressed and I felt them hard. Please note - midges
love Alex and he’s not super fond of them.
The last part of the day was
Horrendous we were so tired and at one point when we thought we had maybe 30 minute left Alex
Googled it to be 1.75
Hours. I broke down to say this is harder than the Inka trail and Kilimanjaro and at the very least I think that lifted everyone’s spirits just slightly. Then as we walked I thought I left my glasses at the stop and everyone laughed and said” Jill they are
On your face”! That’s when I knew I was tired and at the end of my tether.! 35 km and 180
floors is the official stat from today.
So inspiring! And I love all the amazing swimming holes :)
