Days 4 and 5 San Juan Del Sur

 Day 4 I took a 2 hour shuttle to San Juan del Sur.  We arrived at 240 pm and I had missed the shuttle to The Space” where I was staying by 10 mins. So I had 3 hours to look around.  I left my pack in a back room at the restaurant and after a mojito decided to go for a walk along the beach strip.  I stopped at a few bar/restos along the strip and tested mojitos at each spot.  Well that made the wait go faster!  A small town w beach/surfer vibe but I think most surfers head further north.

The above three photos are all of ikal rest/bar which placed a hard 3rd on my Mohito tour but their quacamole made up for it.

Finally checked into the space!  
At 830 am I was up and ready for yoga and then spent the day in student meetings and grading in cowork area.  The beauty about this place is the cowork space, the infinity pool which is narrow but long and the food is very good.  The staff vibe is not as friendly at all as Selina’s so I’m happy to be heading out the next day (sat). 

As I’m writing this I’ve just arrived back at Selina’s and all the staff is coming up to welcome me back - so sweet.  Our dorm room is full of young ladies now and they are all super friendly so that’s nice as well.  It’s 6 pm yoga here tonight in a lovely outdoor space just down the hall and then maybe dinner, a swim and bed.  I’ve booked the Laguna tour for tomorrow so hopefully swimming and paddle boarding and a bit of laying in the sun.  Nice Sunday as back to cowork room on Monday.

 We stayed last night at Peteka Campground in a little cabin to avoid the impending wind and  rain.  It appears that we are fair weather tenters.  They had a nice shower house and outdoor communal cooking area.  5 star. Hafeeza and Abdullah enjoying their fist meat pie.  For breakfast no less! This young man is our master of wifi and phone tech support.  He is relentless. Our day today was a long driving day of 4.5 hours- broken up by a wonderful tour of the Yealands winery, a world leader in sustainability.  Built by Peter Leland.  “Be bold but tread lightly”. New Zealand - Jan 4 Christchurch to Kaikoura

  I arrived at Christchurch airport relatively unscathed except for the security at Auckland airport confiscating my tent pegs.  Hafeeza and Abdullah were there to greet me, we picked up our suv and let the adventure begin! First stop was 30 mins NE of Christchurch to visit Todd Barnes and fam.  Todd lived w us at Black Creek 26 years ago and we picked up like it was yesterday.  He and his wife Roz treated us just like family.  We had a great catch up, and they sent us on our way with a full bag of cherries, tent pegs a hammer and 2 bedrolls.   The photos below are a look around their 55 acre farm and I’ll take more photo when we return in 10 days time. Notice pasture chickens in background.  The sheep shed their wool so no shearing involved. Todd grows their cherries in this greenhouse and his girls pick and sell them at the end of their driveway.  His girls are both competitive rowers and are both tall and gorgeous.

Day 1 on the Kerry Way

It was a challenging first day, lots of rocks, two solid mountain passes, rain and wind but beautiful scenery and sheep everywhere. At the start of the trail head. Before this shot from high up on the mountain we watched a farmer w his 3 dogs moving sheep from one paddock way through and up to another hillside paddock - all fenced w rock walls as far as your eyes could see- amazing.  Anyway I would have loved to chat w the farmer and low and behold - who was sitting up at the bar when we arrived at the Climbers inn - but Mike Daly- the farmer we had watched earlier in the day. It was at this point we had our spirits lifted as the sign below read 10.5 km to climbers inn.  We thought that’s not far - ok we are good.  Then we walked another 10 km over some tough mountain terrain and down the other side and through a valley to come to a sign that said - climbers inn 7.5 km.  ☹️ Disheartening to say the least - however we gathered ourselves up and this last push was a bea...
