First Day in Granada
It’s 430pm local time, (330 pm bc time) and I’m sitting beside the bar at Selina’s sipping on a vodka soda which is very much hitting the spot.
I ordered vodka as it is 70 cordobas ($2.59 can and it was also 2 for 1 happy hour!) A gin and tonic is $400 cordoba and a local cerveza is $110 cordobas at Selina’s. I’ll be buying cerveza at the corner store I think. 🤔 It is taco monday so 3 tacos for equivalent of 2$ Can and they were nothing short of amazing! (I was pretty hungry too). Ok enough on food and drink.
Typical breakfast is inc at Selina’s AND I am now enjoying americano with no cream! Coffee is So great here I just don’t even need cream - huge breakthrough!
Our flight arrived late and customs was a slow go so my transportation from Managua to Granada was no where to be found (45 min drive)… a bit scary but I hopped in w a young cab driver who spoke a bit of English and was a contract driver for the aerporto and we arrived at Granada at 3 am. The night clerk was waiting for me (whew) and I collapsed in bed by 310 am. Yoga is only offered here now on weekends😞 so I’m off to find the only studio in town for yin class this evening..
I did a guided walk this aft and a ton of unguided walking this morn so I’m starting to get my bearings.
A lovely city - hot and humid but nice.
A view of lounge area at Selina’s looking back
at rooms.
A museum we visited on our walking tour.
Inside the Granada cathedral.
A front view of Merced church that was defaced (burned) by William Walker and his men as they were driven out of Nicauragua in 1857 by a coalition led by Costa Rica. He was later captured by the royal British navy in 1860 and turned over to the Honduran authorities. He was tried and sentenced to death in Sept 1860 at the age of 36.
A little history lesson I recd today! I will touch base again in a few days.
