Abel Tasman to Westport

Oh my gosh!  Casey was so true about Abel Tasman…I want to come back here and stay for a week - a hiking and kayaking paradise and beautiful beaches all to yourself.

Morning view as we started our hike.

We started our day early w a pack lunch from Scottie’s Baguettes at The Barn, where we stayed.  It was a 10 km hike in to our first beach at Akerston Bay and then another 4.8 km into our final destination at Anchorage where the water taxi picked us up.

Words cannot describe this jewel of a spot.  Nicest beach ever and we had it all to ourselves.

After leaving Akerston Beach we headed out for Anchorage and here was our first view as we came off the mountain trail.

It was a huge beach with lots more people and boaters w skiers similar to Shuswap Lake lol.  So Hafeeza and I found this changing room in the rocks and then set up camp all alone behind them w our little piece of quiet beach.

Below is a view of the entire beach at Anchorage

The water taxi picked us up at 230 and it was a quick and very wet ride back.  The trailer was ready at our destination and it was attached to a ford tractor.  Our skipper drove the boat right up onto the trailer and then hopped onto the tractor and drove everyone all around town to their various destination hostels/campsites.  It was so fun!  The skipper said it was the only place in New Zealand where it is legal to carry passengers on a trailer. Woohoo!
