Blue Duck Station Day 2
Today I woke up early and headed to the cafe for wifi, and a catch up day of work. I set up my office on the picnic tables outside. Soon Dan arrived and we set into his recorded interview for my Regen Ag bus strategy students. This was my first international producer profile and I was a bit nervous. I had some questions prepared but once Dan got started he covered most of my questions without me even asking lol. That is passion. I’m sure he will be an inspiration for my students as he sure was for me. We are also exploring our top RGEN students being able to complete their practicum at Blue Duck Station. What a cool opportunity.
I worked steady until 330 pm and then shut down my computer and headed out to get some exercise. I headed back up the trail to the falls as it was a nice 4 km hike up the track we took yesterday and you see and hear so much more when you are on foot.
When I returned Dan had 5 types of meat ready for the grill at Ohio Lodge and a few of his crew, including Max, an Aggie student from Lincoln Univ who was leaving Blue Duck the next day, having a small farewell gathering.
The cafe of course was closed so I made a decision that if we were going to have any veggies w the bbq I was the one to make it happen. I hiked back to their veggie garden and found some squash which was the best option. So it was a 5 course meat w mashed squash dinner - delicious! The jalapeño sausages and lamb were my fav and the deer rump roast was a close second.
There were a few guests from Abbotsford, who were staying in cabins in behind our lodge. They were on a tour and had just arrived. So after having him having a visit w them earlier, Dan lead me back behind our lodge into another clearing where there was about 5-6 more cabins and a central kitchen. Nice people for sure and they were happy to meet another traveller from B.C.. we sat around the fire for a bit having a good ol’ visit and once it was dark I had to have one of them w their watch light guide me back to our lodge as it was a bit of a maze through the bush.
Chris and his boys returned from their evening safari shortly after that and they enjoyed the meat and squash smorgasbord before heading to bed, tired little soldiers. I was right behind them.
