Day in Lake Tekapo

Last night I was on a top bunk in room #11, a four bed dorm w washroom down the hall, for $65.  This place provides the nicest linens, white  down duvet and pillow so I was so comfy and had a great sleep.  They even provided a fluffy towel- I’m feeling pampered after my small little shammy towel I brought.  Their kitchen is just beautiful here with at least 10 cooking stations and fully equipped w everything you would need- I felt like I was in the lap of luxury pulling my same ol’ granola, yogurt and apple out of the fridge and dry storage.

Sorry I think when I’m at a pub blogging I’m way more chatty so bare w me.

Above is on top Mt John, where I hiked after yoga this morning.

Yoga class at the Tekapo Springs Star Gazing platform.
Included in the yoga price is a hot drink at the hot springs cafe.  So I enjoyed a flat white w two ladies from the class who w their hubbies are permanent nomads travelling around NZ.  Monique and Pims- super nice ladies and we friended up on SM.

This is where I had dinner last night - you can order an assortment of burgers, fries, no salads only coleslaw for a veg option - I got the hang of it very quickly…. No complaints the burger was epic.  Order at the bar- they  have mastered keeping it simple w great food.

Photos of my hike this am - Tamarack above, through the bottom portion, changing to pine below, and then at the top bunchgrass and fescue as far as your eye can see.

There is an observatory at the top for a closer look of the solar system and star gazing.

This is taken at the southern pt of the mtn.

I was just heading down the trail when Hafeeza called and their bus was coming into Lake Tekapo.  They had a 1.5 hour stop.  I tried jogging down the path back but it was pretty long and I missed them.  We did get to see each other through the window though, just as the bus was pulling out.

I then returned to Haka House and enjoyed some of my packed snacks for lunch on the front deck.  I had a dry day yesterday so I thought I’d finish off Hafeeza and I’s travelling pops w cheese and crackers.

I loved this moment - people watching, sunshine, beautiful scenery and feeling good after yoga and hike.

After a call from Moo I decided to do a bit of shopping - I then called Nik and had a nice visit w her and Annie and got some needed advice on woollen needs for the girls.

I was getting a bit tired of the tourists after this so I decided to drive down the road to be w the local folk at the Kimmell Pub.  I highly recommend this gem in the heart of the high country- sheep everywhere.  But no shepherds in sight lol.  Fox Springs Saloon move over- their fish and chips here have topped yours- and it comes w an arugula salad w sun dried tomatoes.  This salad has gotten me on the sun dried tomato train when I get home.

I missed the live music though - they were just packing up at 4 pm- they need the Irish to show them how it’s done.
Okay I’m headed back to Haka House now and will get organized to get on the road again, back to Todd’s, tomorrow morning after yoga.

The lounge area at Haka House.  Below is my new dorm room for tonight which has a shower and bathroom within- crazy right?  They upgraded me for no charge!
